Description:
I am an organic vegetable and small fruit grower, with over 14 years experience working on and managing organic vegetable operations. I have a BS in Plant, Soil, and Insect Science, and currently am Production Manager for a 50 acre wholesale operation here in western WA. We are seeking land suitable for row crop vegetable production that includes access to irrigation water. My wife and I are searching for farmland in western WA to operate an organic vegetable farm. We will grow a diverse mix of crops, with a focus on specialty crops, season extension and cool-season production. We will sell primarily to wholesale accounts throughout the Northwest, including grocery stores and co-ops, distributors, and institutions.
I have been working on and managing organic vegetable farms for 15 years, and my wife and I are looking for land to start our farm business and raise our family. We are looking for 10-100 tillable acres, with access to water for irrigation (water rights necessary). On-site housing would not be necessary, but considered a benefit if available. We are hoping to purchase, but are also open to leasing or lease-to-own.
I have been working on and managing organic vegetable farms for the past 15 years, and have a B.S. in Plant, Soil, and Insect Science. I have a great deal of experience in all aspects of diverse vegetable farm operations and management, including production, labor and employee management, bookkeeping and financial management, sales and marketing, food safety, and much more. I have spent the past 10 years managing organic vegetable farms with 50 - 100 acres in annual production. I have been farming in the Pacific Northwest since 2014, and currently am Production Manager for a large wholesale farm in western WA.
We will grow organic vegetables and berries, primarily for the wholesale marketplace. We will sell to grocery stores, co-ops, regional distributors, institutions (such as schools, hospitals, and senior care facilities) and other wholesale accounts. With 15 years of prior experience under my belt, we will grow our business quickly, building the infrastructure and establishing the markets for a successful business that will sustain us long into the future. We will employ a crew of year-round employees, and scale up our business with market demand to help make organic and local produce as widely accessible to as many people as possible. In addition to standard field production, we will extend our growing season by using unheated high tunnels to grow during the winter months. We would strive to have as much produce available year-round as possible, in order to become a mainstay in our customer's diets and shopping habits.
