We are Toby and Josh.
For the last three years we have been envisioning our farming dreams here in the PNW in the beautiful counties of Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom with any where from 7 to 40 acres. Our goal in searching for property is to find land that can be turned into or maintained as a regenerative farmstead that works with the rhythm of nature, capturing carbon in soil to produce nutritious, delicious, happy plants and animals to nourish, educate, and enrich the local community. In the current sellers market we have found it difficult to outbid powerful money but we hope we can share our dreams for the property, a piece of our hearts and vision to help our chances. We want to be part of the food/farming/climate conversation more than just reading labels in supermarkets and we can see that dream happening here in the pnw
Our plan is to use rotational planting and animal grazing to create a natural system that creates more abundance and a higher quality of life for both the land and the community it serves. We both recently completed Farmer education: Josh who is 39 years young with a background in fitness and food health recently completed an intensive 8 month program at the Organic Farm School on Whidbey island and Toby who has 45 years of earth experience with a background in IT program management successfully finished a Permaculture course at Oregon State taught by some of the industries best. We are also feeding our constant hunger to learn more about the best practices in regenerative farming as well as the business end to make it successful for the long term. We have finished books *The lean farmer by Ben hartman, The Resilient Farm and Homestead by Ben Falk, Practical Permaculture by Jessi Bloom and Dave, Boehnlein, The new organic grower by Coleman, The organic farmers business handbook, Happy pigs Taste better by Alice Percy. We were inspired by films and stories such as * Kiss the ground, The Biggest little farm, Follow the Food, Rooted, Cooked and so many more. One of our biggest passions is our small veggie garden here on the property we are renting that we have managed to keep something growing for an entire year.
Imagine with us the Dream of a commanding red barn sitting on your property with beautiful green pastures and lush orchards harmonizing with wildlife and farm animals. Picture the neighborhood kids stopping by on field trips to learn how pigs, chickens and sheep can live happy healthy lives on these acres as they take home a box of fresh veggies from the fields those animals fertilized. Fostering and creating community experiences on the farm as well as providing nutrient dense food in our area.
We would very interested in taking over an existing farm from farmers looking to retire or change careers but we are also open to turning your open land into the dream we are pursuing. Thank you Josh and Toby plus furry buddies Summer and Alska
