Incubator Plot
Land Share
Number of Acres: 5
Location: Lopez Island
Land Description:
The Sweetbriar Farm is currently a small, organic market garden. We grow a wide variety of vegetables and small fruits. We currently donate all of the produce which is grown. The food is distributed to 2 non-profit organizations on Lopez to feed the Lopez Island community's food insecure. Approximately 5 acres is deer and rabbit fenced. Currently, we use 1.5 ac for our organic market garden. There are perennial crops available for personal consumption/individual sale, including, but not limited to: fruit trees, asparagus, strawberries, table grapes, and rhubarb.

We are looking for a person to work collaboratively alongside us, particularly someone passionate about growing food organically/regeneratively. Ideally, the candidate would be someone with at least 3-4 years of full season experience (eg. incubator farmers wanting to expand operations, farm school graduates ready for more ownership & responsibility), but with the intent to further develop farm skills & education. We are looking for someone to help manage the farm, while at the same time develop a successful market garden (with our assistance).

We’ll provide use of our farmland and our existing infrastructure (tractors, BCS, cultivation tools, propagation tools, irrigation supplies, high tunnel, greenhouse, etc.) and supplies (fertilizer, propagation media, compost, vegetable seed, etc... for the smallholder to build a profitable market garden, as well as continuing to share harvest with our community (i.e. crop production: 50% food relief, 50% retail sales). Seasonal housing is available on-site; all infrastructure costs, supplies, and lodging are covered for the first year, costs may be re-negotiated for future years. In addition to readily available on-site mentorship, we will help the applicant with any aspects of successful market garden business development and continuing what land management we have stewarded on this site for the past 11 years.
