Description:
I am a first generation farmer who lives in Mt. Vernon. I am a Marine Corps veteran, and I find that growing good food for others is good for me too.I had an herb and vegetable farm, but I closed it after my son was born. Now, I'm interested in starting a new and slightly different version of it. I want to work shrubs and trees within and around my annual crop production. Also, I want to continue my gravel bed nursery project where I store trees and shrubs in raised gravel beds throughout the summer for fall planting. I am open to dry farming, so field irrigation is not a requirement. I plan to sell my products through wholesale markets and directly to people who use public transportation.
Currently, I farm Pacific Northwest native trees and shrubs, and last season the company harvested over 2 million seedlings. In the past, I have grown vegetables and herbs, medicinal and culinary, for direct and wholesale markets. I marketed and sold my products through farmers markets and food hubs. I managed a 16 acre, certified organic farm in King County, instructed veterans in organic farming, and it all started at a U-Pick strawberry operation. I am active in the community, and I continually look to broaden my skills and knowledge. I received farm business training through Tilth Alliance's incubator program, and I helped to found the WA Chapter of the Farmer Veteran Coalition.
