I grew up on an active 45-acre olive ranch in Central California that had been in my family for generations. We kept horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, and birds. I operated lots more machinery than I probably should have by 9? I went off to college, got a degree in micro-biology, and started a career in communications where I was up until I retired in 2020 (at the age of 34). The plan was to find some land and start farming and hopefully not burn up through my savings, the pandemic changed those plans. So here I am, trying again. Since college, I've been working off and on either farm jobs and volunteering for fun. In 2008 I bought a 1/4 acre in Oakland where I live currently and have been homesteading/urban farming since. I currently raise goats, chickens, rabbits, and an occasional hog. I have about 400 sq ft of food crops, 16 fruit/nut/citrus trees, and a creek in the backyard.
