Preferred Acreage: 1-10
Preferred County: I'm Flexible
Description:67 year-old who has raised organic market vegetables and fruits while keeping and reproducing rare and practical varieties of seeds suited to the small farmer and homestead gardener, especially in northern climates and along the Pacific Coast. I've gardened seriously for nearly my entire life, emphasizing varieties of plants and animals that enable small holders to survive tough times with good health and nutrition.
Though I've had a few college agriculture courses along the way, most of what I've learned is from my ancestors, both ancient and modern. Through classes and the written word I share what I've learned in an effort to promote simple yet abundant production of food that is nutritious and tasty. I find varieties that are versatile in their growth, use and storage, reproducing them and sharing the seeds, bulbs and tubers.
I believe that small livestock such as goats and chickens make a great contribution to our efforts.
This summer has been a smaller effort, mostly gardening for our own use, in anticipation of our return to the Pacific Northwest in August.
