My wife and I are looking to start farming full time, with a range of ideas/plans for products, services, and ways to hopefully allow us to continue operating a financially viable farm.We currently have a home garden with mostly medicinal herbs, some vegetables, and the property we live on has a few fruit trees. We both personally enjoy growing and tending to the plants, as well as living a more natural and organic life.
My wife has been working with herbs to create healing and other beneficial salves, ointments, teas, etc. from our herb garden. My wife and daughter are interested in expanding this into various herbal products we could sell. We are fairly technology savvy, and would also enjoy creating some content online to help others fall in love with farming, care for themselves with natural plants, and even spend some time enjoying watching/reading about our journey becoming full time farmers.
I have mostly a technology background, but my grandfather had a dairy farm that I would visit every summer. I was not a 'full time worker' while I was there, I was more of a young 'farm assistant'. I do understand some of the basics, I am calm and friendly to animals, and believe they should be treated with compassion.
As my wife and I have a harder and harder time finding sustainable, natural, organic, foods and meat products from well cared for animals, we have decided we would rather live and work growing and producing our own. Maybe even help others understand why farming is so important to our health and well-being.
