We’re Evan and Whitney. We've been based in Whatcom/Skagit/Snohomish for the past four years working in careers supporting agricultural production and market access. We are not currently farming, but would like to get started this year. We are looking for some land to either lease or purchase.Experience:
Evan has worked with a local farmers cooperative in a variety of roles, and specializes in market access and technical assistance for small- and mid-scale farmers. He also has experience as a farmhand for a number of local organic farms, agroforestry and beekeeping experience through the Peace Corps, and some perspective from WWOOFing at a number of communities/homesteads in the area. He is attending Viva Farm’s Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture this growing season.
Whitney has a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Plant Sciences from Washington State University, specializing in Fruit & Vegetable Management. She has worked for a number of production and trials nurseries in the area and is currently working as an Operational Efficiency Manager for a large wholesale nursery. She is currently pursuing a masters in nutrition from Bastyr University.
We are just starting out, so we are looking for a smaller parcel, though we are flexible on the acreage. We are also interested in housing if available, but are fine without it. Our end goal is to be a certified organic operation, but we’re happy to help steward land in transition from conventional to organic practices. Our production plan for our first year on site will vary based on the timing and the soil composition, but will likely be focused on a variety of row crops intended for farmers markets, as well as a small-scale beekeeping operation, if timing and land-owner interest allow. We're primarily searching for land in Skagit or Whatcom County, since it's adjacent to where our current housing and jobs are.
