Description:
Currently I am a father to two young boys and a US veteran looking to continue and grow my passion of sustainable agriculture. My vision is to have a mix of regenerative and permaculture style farming. One of my farming goals is to go into maple syrup harvesting which I believe is an upcoming staple in the Pacific Northwest. Along with the maple syrup niche I would like to go into unique fruits for the Pacific Northwest such as citrus fruits that are uncommon in our climate. I would also like to have a place to develop new fruit and vegetable strains and develop a breeding program. Finally I would like to continue my love of beekeeping to develop a self sustaining farm. I have a business plan developed and now I am looking for an opportunity and resources to move forward.I have been involved in sustainable agriculture for eight years starting after I left the US military. I first started my farming experience with Growing Veterans, a nonprofit organization based out of Bellingham WA. I started at Growing Veterans as a volunteer and worked my way up to head beekeeper and outreach coordinator. I have attended the "Learning from the Bees, Natural Beekeeping Conference" in Berlin, Germany and the "American Beekeeping Federation Conference" in Reno, California. This experience jumpstarted my passion and fueled my desire to study sustainable agriculture at Skagit Valley Community College and Evergreen State College. Along with my education of sustainable agriculture I am also experienced in mechanics and power tools. I have worked with my father in-law as well to develop his homestead.
